5 Pound Fudge

This easy-to-make, rich dessert was a family favorite during the Christmas holiday. My “Nanny”, my maternal grandmother, fixed this every year since it was so well-loved.

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 c. sugar
  • 18 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 oz. bag and 3/4 cp of 12 oz. bag)
  • 12 oz. can Pet milk
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 3 Tbsp vanilla

Instructions

  • Cook sugar and milk to rapid boil for 6 minutes. Stir all the time. Take off stove and add the other ingredients. Beat until it stiffens. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 in. pan (I used wax paper) and cool for at least 6 hours before cutting.

Notes

I can remember a tin of this delicious treat being set out with the desserts for all to enjoy. She had an extra fridge in her basement where she kept some to have as a treat after the holidays as well. This recipe was such a tradition that it was submitted to a church cookbook as memorial to her. I loved my Nanny and her fudge!
